WELL…., WHAT a year 2008 turned out to be!
I’m very proud, that as a man of mixed race origins, that there’s finally a BLACK Man, in the WHITE house. We’ve surely come a LONG way baby. Time was when black people were not even allowed IN the white house, let alone as the PRESIDENT. Barack Obama has one HELL of a job ahead of him and the eyes of the world are deinitely upon him and I wish him the best of luck as he will surely need it. Having said that, he is a massive improvement on BUSH – though almost anything except Sarah Palin, perhaps would be.
We are headed into what undoubtedly will be a rollercoaster ride year this year, with economic tumoil, people losing their jobs left right & centre and our clubbing mecca, Ibiza facing an uncertain future after last years heavy-handed policing of the island & Electro & Hip-Pop ruling the roost in most clubs where i live, here in Hong Kong,
I was listening to a BBC radio documentary about Acid House hosted by DJ Chris Coco last night. and as i listen to ‘Can You Feel it’ by Mr Fingers as i write this, it seems unbelievable that house music has been around for over 20 years….
I feel so glad to have lived in this time – when i first started going out to clubs, long before ecstasy came along, it was to places like the Mud Club in Charing Cross Rd, The Warehouse in Camden, Sol-y-Sombra in Charlotte St, Soho – the WAG on a Monday night, Doo at the ZOO, The Special Branch at Tooley St, The Escape Club in Brighton, Westworld, Norman Jays Shake & Fingerpop parties and many more that have faded into obscurity…
I had the pleasure of DJ-ing at a couple of prvate parties in two very swanky villas in sunny Phuket, Thailand during December and even got to spend the day on a 100ft motor yacht! livin’ the DJ lifestyle BIG time! Congrats to Paul & Elaine on their marriage and look forward to seeing you again at Chinese New Year, at the end of January.
i ended my year spinning for my friends at the BLUE Bar at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong which really was a night to remember with lots of super-hot Brasilian dancers, sext latin house music and an opportunity to give some northern soul tunes a long-overdue rinse! is it me, or do i feel a mini Northern Soul revival coming – you read it here first.
Anyway, i’l wrap it up here for now – Love is the message to you and i wish you all the best of British luck in the coming year….
